The 10 Decisions to Make Before Demo Day

The order I use, and why it makes the whole thing easier

Most people call me the week the money is finally together. They are excited, and they should be. What almost nobody knows yet is that the order they make their decisions in will matter more than any single decision they make.

I have been designing kitchens in Lethbridge and the towns around it for more than twenty five years. This guide is the part I usually get paid to do. Ten decisions, in the sequence I would make them, including the two that quietly close doors behind you before you notice there was a door.

It is free, it runs ten pages, and the page at the back is the sheet I ask every client to leave on their kitchen counter for a week. That sheet is where a real layout comes from.

One email with the guide, then the occasional note about renovating well. Unsubscribe whenever you like.

What is inside

  1. 01How long are you staying
  2. 02Does your house need to be checked for asbestos
  3. 03Decide the layout before you decide anything pretty
  4. 04Choose your appliances, and yes, this early
  5. 05Choose your countertop first, and here is why
  6. 06Flooring and tile, together
  7. 07Cabinet colour, and only then the walls
  8. 08Lighting and handle finishes
  9. 09Know the day you stop deciding
  10. 10Your start date is decided last, not first

Then the five to six week calendar a kitchen actually runs on, four sequencing gates a homeowner would never guess, an honest page about permits, and the printable sheet for your counter.

If you would rather not run it yourself

If you are in Lethbridge or the surrounding area, the Home Visit is where every project of mine starts. I come and look at the room, we talk about how you live in it, and you find out what working together would actually be like before anyone signs anything.
