Varsity Village

location: Lethbridge, AB
PROJECT: Kitchen and Ensuite Renovation

One of the Westside’s most established neighbourhoods provides the backdrop for this kitchen transformation. White cabinetry meets warm walnut and handcrafted tile for a space that feels intentional in every detail – a home that only gets more beautiful with time.

The Ask

The homeowners loved to cook and frequently hosted a large family, but their existing, closed-off kitchen and dining room footprint wasn’t built for grand-scale entertaining. The mandate was twofold: maximize every square inch of storage for a client who deeply values “a place for everything,” and re-engineer the dining area to effortlessly expand for family gatherings without swallowing up the daily flow of the home.

The Call I Made

Instead of trying to crowd a massive, traditional dining set into the space, I made the call to design a custom, built-in banquette seating solution flanked by independent dining chairs on the opposite side. This allowed us to anchor an expandable table system that could scale up instantly for a crowd while keeping the room’s daily footprint incredibly clean and open. For the kitchen itself, we spent hours mapping out the interior architecture of every single drawer, engineering custom storage homes for specific tools to ensure flawless, professional-grade cooking function.

Why It Worked

By trading an off-the-shelf furniture layout for a custom-built spatial plan, the home gained a level of efficiency that a standard remodel simply couldn’t achieve. Today, the kitchen runs like a finely tuned machine when cooking for two, and the dining room transforms seamlessly into a banquet-level experience when the whole family gathers, proving that great design is measured by how beautifully a house supports real life.
